Introduction

 A Rollerised Rotary Cutter is a specialized downhole fishing tool used in oil and gas operations to sever a stuck wireline or slickline. When a toolstring becomes wedged, the cutter is dropped from the surface, sliding down the cable until it impacts the stuck tool, triggering a rotating blade that cleanly cuts the wire.

Application

The Rollerised Rotary Cutter is composed of components such as the connection rod, the body, the impact hammer, the straight sleeve, the conical sleeve, the rotating blade, the fixed blade, the knife holder, the roller and the pin.    

Rollerised Rotary cutter is placed over the wireline at the surface and allowed to free-fall or pump down to reach the stuck toolstring. Modern rollerised models feature built-in rollers that help the tool reach target depth in highly deviated or horizontal wells without needing extra roller subs.Once the  Rollerised Rotary Cutter nose strikes the rope socket or stuck tool, the impact shears a pin and utilizes inertia to activate a rotating knife. The blade shears the wire and simultaneously wedges a taper slip or key against the cut wire. This allows the Rollerised Rotary Cutter  and the severed wireline to be retrieved to the surface in a single operation, clearing the way for subsequent fishing operations.
